Tuesday was a day of history, heartbreak, and heavy rain at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026.
From a monumental upset in Mumbai to a washout in Kandy that sealed the fate of a cricket giant, the tournament has shifted into high gear. Zimbabwe and New Zealand have officially booked their spots in the Super 8 stage, while Nepal gave their fans a night to remember.
Here is a wrap of all the action.

Nepal Breaks 12-Year Wait with Historic Win
In a thrilling encounter at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, Nepal registered their first T20 World Cup victory since 2014, defeating Scotland by 7 wickets.
Chasing a target of 171, Nepal looked comfortable early on before a three-wicket burst from Scotland’s Michael Leask threatened to derail the chase. However, Dipendra Singh Airee played the innings of a lifetime, smashing an unbeaten 50 off 23 balls to guide his side home.
- The Turning Point: Nepal’s medium-pacer Sompal Kami was the architect of the first half, taking 3/25 and snapping up crucial wickets just as Scotland looked to accelerate.
- Scotland’s Standout: Despite the loss, opener Michael Jones shone with a blistering 71 off 45 balls.
Rain Sends Zimbabwe Through, Australia Out

In Group B, the weather had the final say. The clash between Zimbabwe and Ireland in Kandy was abandoned without a ball bowled due to persistent rain.
The shared points were enough to confirm Zimbabwe’s qualification for the Super 8 stage. They now sit on 5 points, making it mathematically impossible for Australia (currently on 2 points) to catch them, regardless of the result in their final game against Oman.
Black Caps Cruise as Yuvraj Samra Makes History
Group D action in Chennai saw New Zealand storm into the Super 8s with a comfortable 8-wicket win over Canada.
While the Black Caps were clinical, the headline belonged to Canada’s teenage sensation, Yuvraj Samra. The 19-year-old left-hander smashed a record-breaking 110 off 65 balls, becoming the youngest player ever to score a century in a Men’s World Cup (T20 or ODI).
- The Chase: New Zealand made light work of Canada’s 173/4. After losing early wickets, Glenn Phillips (76* off 36) and Rachin Ravindra (59*) stitched together a match-winning partnership to see the Kiwis home with overs to spare.
- Captaincy Change: Daryl Mitchell led the side in place of Mitchell Santner, who missed the match due to illness.
