T20 World Cup Final

Former Indian cricketer Navjot Singh Sidhu took a sharp, public dig at Pakistan pacer Mohammad Amir recently. Specifically, Sidhu labeled the former fast bowler a “Dhongi Baba” (fake saint) after India successfully secured their spot in the T20 World Cup final. Consequently, this fierce war of words instantly went viral across social media platforms today.

The “Dhongi Baba” Comments

First, the controversy stems from Amir’s repeated tournament predictions. Initially, Amir claimed India would fail to even qualify for the semi-finals. Later, he heavily backed England to defeat India during their crucial knockout clash in Mumbai.

Following India’s spectacular seven-run victory, Sidhu posted a scathing video on Instagram. He mocked Amir’s failed forecasts brilliantly.

“People around us have a big habit of making fake predictions… Honestly, I think such people are just fake babas. First they said India wouldn’t even qualify… And today they said England would win the semifinal, and England also got knocked out.”

Furthermore, Sidhu emphasized that real matches are decided on the battlefield, not through empty predictions.

Amir Defends His Predictions

Despite the heavy criticism, Mohammad Amir firmly stood his ground following the match. He suggested that his prediction was solid, but England ultimately let the game slip away due to poor fielding.

Specifically, Amir pointed out a crucial dropped catch involving an in-form Indian batter. He stated, “If Harry Brook would have taken the catch of Samson, this target would have been chased down by England with an over to spare.” Ultimately, Amir credited Indian bowler Jasprit Bumrah as the sole difference between the two massive teams.

A Historic Semi-Final Clash

Ultimately, India produced one of the most thrilling matches in tournament history to reach the final against New Zealand.

  • India’s Massive Total: Batting first, India posted an incredible 253/7. This marks the highest total ever recorded in a T20 World Cup knockout match.
  • Samson’s Brilliance: Wicketkeeper-batter Sanju Samson led the aggressive charge, smashing a sensational 89 off just 42 balls.
  • England’s Chase: England nearly pulled off a historic upset, fueled by Jacob Bethell’s blistering 105 off 48 balls.
  • The Final Over: However, Bumrah’s phenomenal death bowling secured the dramatic seven-run victory, restricting England to 246/7.
