Jos Buttler is the best white-ball opener in the world: Kumar Sangakkara

Jos Buttler, who didn’t do well in Rajasthan Royals’ first three matches, bounced back with a superb unbeaten century off 58 balls against Royal Challengers Bangalore.

The head coach of Rajasthan Royals, Kumar Sangakkara, praised Jos Buttler for his remarkable century against Royal Challengers Bangalore in Jaipur during the IPL 2024.

Jos Buttler, who had struggled in Rajasthan’s first three matches, bounced back with an outstanding century off 58 balls while chasing a target of 184 runs. His innings guided the team led by Sanju Samson to a comfortable six-wicket victory with five balls to spare.

“Jos is undoubtedly the best white-ball opener globally, and all he needed was to stay focused and ignore some of the criticism,” said Sangakkara after the game.

Reflecting on his innings, Buttler shared his feelings about the pressure he faced due to his recent poor form. He also mentioned finding some solace during the previous match against Mumbai Indians, despite scoring only 13 runs. Additionally, Buttler made history by becoming the second player to score a century in his 100th IPL game.

“No matter how much experience you have in the game, you still deal with anxieties and pressure. Sometimes you just have to reassure yourself that things will improve. Keep putting in the effort, keep working hard, and eventually, things will turn around. I actually felt quite good in the last game, even though I didn’t score many runs,” said the 33-year-old during the post-match presentation.

RR continued their winning run, beating RCB by six wickets

Rajasthan Royals, under the leadership of Sanju Samson, extended their winning streak by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore by six wickets. This victory marked their fourth consecutive win in the ongoing tournament.

In the game, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and chose to field first. Royal Challengers Bangalore got off to a great start with Virat Kohli and Faf du Plessis forming a solid partnership of 125 runs for the first wicket. Kohli, the RCB captain, was dismissed by Yuzvendra Chahal after scoring 44 runs, but he continued to lead the charge and scored an impressive century, helping his team reach a challenging total of 183/3.

During the chase, Rajasthan Royals faced an early setback when they lost Yashasvi Jaiswal’s wicket in just the second ball of the innings. However, Jos Buttler and Sanju Samson steadied the ship with a partnership of 148 runs for the second wicket. Samson played a fantastic inning, scoring 69 runs off just 42 balls before getting out to Mohammed Siraj. Meanwhile, Buttler showcased his brilliance by hitting a maximum, reaching his sixth century in the IPL and guiding Rajasthan to a remarkable victory.
