West Indies cricket thrived under Johnny Grave’s leadership, hosting major tournaments like the upcoming 2024 Men’s T20 World Cup, the 2022 Men’s U19 World Cup, and the 2018 Women’s T20 World Cup.

Johnny Grave, who became CEO of Cricket West Indies (CWI) in February 2017, said it was an honor to serve in this role. After successfully organizing the T20 World Cup and achieving financial stability for CWI for three years in a row, he felt it was the right time to move on and find a new challenge for himself and his family.

He expressed his gratitude for the support he received from staff, players, and others, especially during the tough times of the pandemic. Grave shared that he and his family enjoyed living in Antigua, watching their young children grow up there, and said it’s now time for someone with fresh energy to take over and continue the work.

Before becoming CEO of CWI, Johnny Grave worked as the commercial director for the Professional Cricketers’ Association in England for ten years. He took on the CEO role after Michael Muirhead resigned, and his efforts were praised by CWI President Dr. Kishore Shallow.

Dr. Shallow highlighted Grave’s hard work, especially during challenging times like the COVID-19 pandemic, and the successful hosting of three World Cups. He also noted the significant progress made under Grave’s leadership, including the acquisition of the Coolidge Cricket Ground, now home to the Men’s and Women’s Academies.

CWI announced that they will soon begin an extensive and transparent search for Grave’s replacement. Dr. Shallow emphasized that CWI is ready to move forward with a new strategic plan and adapt to the changing landscape of cricket, marking a new chapter in the organization’s history.
