Rohit Sharma Sits Out Final Test vs Australia After Poor Form

India’s Test captain Rohit Sharma has decided to skip the final Test against Australia in Sydney following a disappointing performance with the bat in the ongoing series.

The 37-year-old batter has managed only 31 runs across five innings, averaging a mere 6.20. His struggles aren’t new, with his average over the last eight games standing at 10.93, including a highest score of just 23 against Bangladesh in September.

Shubman Gill has replaced Rohit in the playing XI, and Jasprit Bumrah is leading the side as stand-in captain. Speaking about the decision, Bumrah emphasized the team’s unity and selflessness. He said, “Our captain has shown true leadership by stepping aside for the team’s benefit. This decision reflects how we prioritize the team’s success over individual goals.”

Speculation is growing about Rohit Sharma’s future in Test cricket, with rumors suggesting he might retire soon. However, the veteran batter has not made any public statement regarding his plans.

India is trailing the series 2-1 and must win this final Test to secure a 2-2 draw and remain in the race for a spot in the ICC World Test Championship final, set to take place at Lord’s in June.

A win for Australia, led by Pat Cummins, would seal their place in the final against South Africa.
