Early Breakthroughs Set the ToneKKR’s Struggles With the BatMumbai on Track for First Win of the Season

Mumbai Indians’ new left-arm pacer, Ashwani Kumar, made history on his IPL debut, dismantling Kolkata Knight Riders with a sensational four-wicket haul. The 23-year-old became the first Indian and only the sixth bowler overall to achieve this feat on debut.

His spell of 4 for 24 helped Mumbai bowl out KKR for a mere 116 in their first home game of IPL 2025.

Early Breakthroughs Set the Tone

Kumar announced himself in style, dismissing KKR captain Ajinkya Rahane with his very first ball. He then removed the dangerous Rinku Singh and Andre Russell, showing composure beyond his years.

Despite operating in the early-to-mid 130kph range, Kumar’s precise lengths and variations made it difficult for KKR’s batters to attack. His performance in the Sher-E-Punjab T20 Trophy last year hinted at his potential, but this IPL debut confirmed his ability to deliver under pressure.

KKR’s Struggles With the Bat

KKR’s intent was clear from the start—they wanted a big total. However, they lost Sunil Narine and Quinton de Kock within the first two overs, putting them on the back foot. Young Angkrish Raghuvanshi played a promising knock of 26 off 16, but his dismissal right after the powerplay left KKR reeling.

In an attempt to stabilize the innings, they brought in Manish Pandey as an Impact Player. However, he couldn’t make a significant impact, falling for 19 off 14 balls.

Mumbai on Track for First Win of the Season

After losing their first two matches, Mumbai Indians now have a golden opportunity to register their first win of IPL 2025. Meanwhile, KKR is left wondering where things went wrong after their aggressive approach backfired.

As the match progresses, all eyes will be on how Mumbai’s batters chase down the modest target. Can KKR fight back, or will MI cruise to victory? Stay tuned for the action!
