Noor Ahmad Jumps to No. 2 on Purple Cap Table After KKR vs CSK Game

There was some movement on the Purple Cap table...

In a match that swung dramatically, Dewald Brevis’ explosive innings turned the tide for CSK. With the chase at a precarious 93/5 after ten overs, Brevis came in and changed the complexion of the game in a matter of six balls, hitting a blistering 30 runs off one over from Vaibhav Arora.

Brevis’ aggressive hitting included a one-handed six off a knuckleball full toss, which sailed over long-on for 89 meters. His half-century came off just 22 balls, and after his dismissal in the 13th over, CSK still had a manageable 53 runs to get off 47 balls, with MS Dhoni and Shivam Dube at the crease.

KKR’s Early Success Fades

KKR had looked in control initially. Their batting effort, led by Ajinkya Rahane and Sunil Narine, took KKR to 67/1 after six overs, with both players aggressively maximizing the powerplay. Rahane survived a dropped catch early on, but Narine, coming off an excellent performance in the previous match, continued his solid form. KKR’s powerplay was perfectly executed, with early wickets and boundaries.

However, the match tilted after Noor Ahmad’s four-wicket burst in the middle overs, which stemmed KKR’s progress and limited their total to a defendable 179/6. Noor removed key batsmen, including Andre Russell and Rinku Singh, during the death overs, keeping the pressure on KKR.

Dube, Dhoni, and the Clutch Finish

With 53 runs required off 47 balls, Dube and Dhoni guided CSK to the edge of victory. Dube’s calculated hitting, including three sixes, brought the game closer to the target. As the equation narrowed to 10 runs off nine balls, Dube fell, but Dhoni held his nerve. He hit a crucial six off the first ball of the last over to bring the target to 8 off 6.

With Anshul Kamboj at the crease, Dhoni’s quick decision-making allowed Kamboj to hit the match-winning run, sealing a thrilling victory for CSK. The chase was completed with three balls remaining.

KKR’s Playoff Hopes in Danger

Though KKR are still mathematically in the race for the playoffs, they now need to win their last two matches and hope for favorable results elsewhere. The defeat leaves their playoff hopes hanging by a thread.
