After steering Gujarat Titans to a commanding win with a brilliant century, Sai Sudharsan opened up about how his game has grown — both technically and mentally — and the joy he feels when finishing matches for his team.

Gujarat Titans skipper Shubman Gill admitted that, at one point, they might have given away “ten to 15 runs extra” to Delhi Capitals, but he and Sai Sudharsan’s unstoppable partnership more than compensated for it. Their unbeaten 205-run opening stand powered GT to a comfortable ten-wicket victory, securing them a spot in the IPL 2025 playoffs and catapulting them to the top of the table with a couple of league games left.

Gill, fresh after recovering from an enforced break due to illness, finished unbeaten on 93, while Sai Sudharsan’s blistering 108* came off just 61 balls — his second IPL century this season. Together, they’ve piled up 839 runs and counting this year, setting a record as the highest-scoring Indian opening pair in IPL history.

“There’s a special kind of joy when you get to finish games for your team,” Sai Sudharsan reflected, clearly savoring the moment after being named Player of the Match. “During the break, I thought a lot about how to close out games better. Between overs seven to ten, Delhi bowled really well — they kept things tight and slowed our momentum. We wanted to stay patient, not rush for risky shots, and keep a cool head to take the game deep.”

He added, “In previous matches, I sometimes took chances too early and got out. This time, I was more aware — picking the right moments and bowlers to attack.”

When asked about the changes in his approach, Sai Sudharsan was candid. “I’ve started to believe in myself more. Mentally, I feel freer and more expressive at the crease. I’m confident in taking the game deeper and winning matches for my team. I’ve expanded my batting — trying new shots and approaches without fear.”

The chemistry between the two openers has been a key to Gujarat Titans’ success. Sai Sudharsan praised his captain’s role in their partnership: “When I go after the bowlers, Shubman complements me perfectly. We run well between the wickets and rotate the strike effectively. He also helps me stay aware of any mistakes I make, and I do the same for him.”

Gujarat Titans’ batting coach Parthiv Patel highlighted the duo’s smart, risk-averse style that still manages to generate boundaries and sixes. “They’re not reckless players; they play low-risk cricket with the ability to score big,” Patel said. “Their powerplay fours come from solid basics and hard work that people don’t always notice. They communicate really well and understand each other’s games inside out.”

He also reminded everyone that while many expected Jos Buttler to open this season, it’s these two who have truly made the difference, building a partnership grounded in trust, understanding, and consistency.
