Trent Boult delivered a devastating spell upfront, while Monank Patel and Nicholas Pooran struck half-centuries as MI New York cruised to an eight-wicket win over Los Angeles Knight Riders in Major League Cricket 2025. The result all but ended LAKR’s playoff hopes and kept MINY’s faint chances alive.
After winning the toss and choosing to field, MI New York got off to the perfect start. Boult made an immediate impact, taking a wicket off the very first ball as Unmukt Chand’s stumps were knocked over. He struck again in each of his next two overs, removing Andre Russell and Andre Fletcher with deliveries that shaped in and kept low. By the time the powerplay was done, LAKR were in serious trouble at 29 for 3.
Sherfane Rutherford was the only batter who managed to counter-attack. Coming in under pressure, he played a lone hand with an aggressive 86 off 44 balls, smashing five fours and six sixes. He received little support until Matthew Tromp contributed a brief stand late in the innings. Boult returned in the 19th over to dismiss Rutherford and complete figures of 4 for 17. LAKR eventually reached 154 for 8, a total that always looked light against MI New York’s powerful lineup.

In the chase, Sunil Narine gave LAKR a glimmer of hope by removing Quinton de Kock early, but Monank and Pooran steadied things quickly. Their 112-run partnership for the second wicket effectively sealed the result. Monank scored 56 off 44 balls, timing the ball well throughout. Pooran was scratchy to start but accelerated confidently, finishing unbeaten on 62 from 47 deliveries with six fours and two sixes.
After Monank fell with just 20 runs needed, Kieron Pollard joined Pooran to wrap up the match in style. Pollard smashed two sixes in his quick cameo of 14 not out from six balls as MI New York chased down the target with 13 balls remaining.
For LAKR, Rutherford’s innings was the only highlight in what has been a disappointing campaign. With this defeat, their hopes of making the playoffs are all but over. MI New York, meanwhile, live to fight another day in MLC 2025.
