Abhishek Sharma broke Virat Kohli'

SRH batter Abhishek Sharma broke Virat Kohli’s eight-year-old IPL record for the most sixes in a single season by an Indian player. The 23-year-old achieved this during SRH’s match against PBKS in Match 69 of IPL 2024 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.

Abhishek surpassed Kohli’s record with a six off Rishi Dhawan in the sixth over, hitting his 39th six of the season, one more than Kohli’s 38 sixes in the 2016 season.

After losing his opening partner Travis Head on the first ball of the innings, the Punjab-born cricketer took charge and scored a quick half-century off just 21 balls. He was eventually out for 66 off 28 balls, hitting five fours and six sixes, leaving SRH at 129/3 after 10.1 overs while chasing 215.

Abhishek also surpassed his best-ever runs tally in a season, beating his 426 runs from the 2022 season. He has now scored 467 runs from 13 innings, averaging 38.91 with an impressive strike rate of 209.41. Along with his 41 sixes, he has hit 35 fours and scored three half-centuries this season.

Meanwhile, Virat Kohli is close behind Abhishek in the sixes count, having hit 37 sixes in 14 matches. He will be eager to catch up as RCB prepares for the Eliminator game.

Kohli has been in excellent form this season, being the top run-scorer with 708 runs in 14 innings. He averages 64.36 and has a strike rate of 155.60, with one hundred and five fifties to his name.
