Priyansh Arya lit up the Eden Gardens with a blistering 103 off 42 balls, registering the fastest IPL century by an uncapped Indian, as Punjab Kings beat Chennai Super Kings by 18 runs. His effort helped PBKS reach 219/6, a total CSK fell short of despite a solid start and a late surge from MS Dhoni.

Arya’s ton came off just 39 balls, making it the joint-fourth fastest in IPL history, only behind Chris Gayle (30), Yusuf Pathan (37), and David Miller (38). CSK’s poor fielding cost them dearly—they dropped five catches, including two chances offered by Arya.

Arya’s Firestorm in Eden

The 24-year-old left-hander, hyped up after his six sixes in an over in the Delhi Premier League, fully lived up to the billing. Arya launched into the attack right from the start, reaching 50 in just 19 balls with a dismissive hit over mid-off against Ashwin. He later smacked Pathirana for 22 runs in four balls to reach his maiden IPL century in the 13th over.

Despite falling soon after, Arya had set the platform. His 103 off 42 included 9 fours and 7 sixes. The rest of PBKS’s top order, oddly, managed only 23 off 25 collectively. But a strong finish from Shashank Singh (52*) and Marco Jansen (34*) ensured Punjab crossed 210.

CSK Start Strong but Falter Again

Chennai began their chase confidently—Conway and Ravindra added 59 in the powerplay. Conway was fluent throughout, eventually retiring out on 69 off 49 balls with the asking rate climbing past 22 per over. Dube’s quick 42 injected hope, but PBKS’s tight bowling at the death choked CSK’s momentum.

Dhoni arrived too late to salvage the chase. Even though he hit three sixes, the game was beyond reach when he fell early in the final over.

PBKS Tactics Outclass CSK

Ricky Ponting’s decision to hold back Yuzvendra Chahal until Shivam Dube’s dismissal proved critical. Chahal bowled just one over, but his presence and the timing of his introduction helped build pressure. PBKS’s use of pace variations and calm execution at the death kept CSK from launching a final assault.

With this win, PBKS climbed the table while CSK slumped to their fourth consecutive defeat, their longest such streak since 2020. The chasing struggles continue—CSK have now failed to chase 180+ totals in their last 11 attempts.
