Barinder Sran, a left-arm medium-fast bowler, has announced his retirement from international and domestic cricket at the age of 31. He played six ODIs and two T20Is for India, all between January and June 2016.
“As I officially retire from cricket, I reflect on my journey with a heart full of gratitude,” Sran shared on Instagram. “Cricket gave me so many amazing experiences. Fast bowling became my good luck charm and gave me the chance to play for top IPL teams, and ultimately, represent India in 2016.
“Though my international career was short, the memories will stay with me forever. I’m deeply thankful to the almighty for guiding me to the right coaches and management who supported me throughout my career.”
Barinder Sran had only played eight List A games when he made his ODI debut under MS Dhoni in Perth, where he took seven wickets in six matches.
Later that year, he made his T20I debut, also under Dhoni, on a tour of Zimbabwe. In his first game, he took 4 wickets for 10 runs, earning the Player of the Match award and helping bowl out Zimbabwe for just 99 runs.
Sran played his last first-class game in 2019 and his final List A game in 2021. Over his IPL career, he played for four teams—Rajasthan Royals, Sunrisers Hyderabad, Kings XI Punjab, and Mumbai Indians—appearing in 24 matches between 2015 and 2019, taking 18 wickets with an economy rate of 9.40.
