Gujarat Titans (GT) stormed to an emphatic eight-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) at the Chinnaswamy Stadium. Mohammed Siraj’s stunning 3 for 19 set the stage, and Jos Buttler’s unbeaten 73 off 39 balls sealed the victory with ease.

Siraj, facing his former team, dismantled RCB’s top order with sheer pace and accuracy. Despite resistance from Liam Livingstone (54), Jitesh Sharma (33), and Tim David (32), RCB managed only 169 for 8. GT, in response, chased the target in 17.5 overs, thanks to a 75-run stand between Sai Sudharsan (49) and Buttler, followed by Sherfane Rutherford’s 30* off 18 balls.

Siraj’s Redemption: A Performance to Remember

After seven years with RCB, Siraj returned to Chinnaswamy in a new avatar for GT. His spell in the powerplay was unplayable, hitting speeds above 140kph and attacking the stumps relentlessly. He castled Devdutt Padikkal and Phil Salt with lethal deliveries and later removed Livingstone in the 19th over.

In the powerplay, Siraj bowled six deliveries on a good length, two of which resulted in wickets. His accuracy forced RCB to a control percentage of just 50, proving decisive in GT’s victory.

Livingstone, Jitesh, and David Lift RCB to a Fighting Total

At 42 for 4, RCB looked in deep trouble until Livingstone took charge. His six-hitting spree against Rashid Khan turned the tide briefly. Livingstone was dropped twice and survived a missed stumping, capitalizing on his chances to smash five sixes off Rashid.

Meanwhile, Jitesh and David played crucial cameos, adding quick runs in the final overs. David’s 32 off 18 ensured RCB reached 169, but against a strong GT batting unit, the total proved insufficient.

Buttler’s Brilliance Guides GT to Victory

Coming into the IPL under pressure, Buttler silenced critics with a magnificent knock. His record against RCB in recent years is outstanding, and he extended it with another match-winning innings.

After a cautious start, Buttler launched an assault on Rasikh Salam, smashing 27 runs off him in 12 balls. Sudharsan’s fluent 49 further solidified GT’s chase. Rutherford then joined Buttler in an unbroken 63-run stand, ensuring a comfortable win with 13 balls to spare.

What’s Next for GT and RCB?

This win boosted GT’s net run rate and moved them to second place. Meanwhile, RCB, after two consecutive wins, slipped to third behind Punjab Kings and Delhi Capitals. With tougher challenges ahead, both teams will need to fine-tune their strategies for upcoming games.
