Delhi Capitals have brought in South African fast bowler Lizaad Williams to replace Harry Brook, who had to step out of IPL 2024 due to his grandmother’s passing. Williams will be playing for his base price of INR 50 lakh. This marks his debut in the IPL.

Williams will add strength to Capitals’ fast bowling lineup, which already includes Anrich Nortje, Ishant Sharma, Khaleel Ahmed, Jhye Richardson, and Mukesh Kumar. They also have two all-rounders who can bowl fast, Mitchell Marsh and Sumit Kumar.

Although Capitals had Lungi Ngidi in their squad, he withdrew due to ongoing recovery from a lower-back injury sustained during the SA20 earlier this year.

Lizaad Williams has a solid record in T20s, with 106 wickets from 83 matches at an average of 19.76. He made his South Africa debut in April 2022 and has played in two Tests, four ODIs, and 11 T20Is.

He was part of South Africa’s team in the 2023 ODI World Cup and played one match against Bangladesh.

In the SA20, he claimed 15 wickets for Joburg Super Kings, ranking fourth among the leading wicket-takers.

Williams’ addition comes at a crucial time for Capitals, as Marsh is sidelined due to a hamstring injury, which will keep him out for at least a week.

Currently, Delhi Capitals are at the bottom of the points table, having suffered four defeats in five matches.
