While Sai Sudharsan and Hazlewood continue to dominate the Orange Cap and Purple Cap tables, the battle for the Purple Cap has gotten much more competitive in IPL 2025.
Not long ago, Noor Ahmad held the Purple Cap, but his performance against Punjab Kings (PBKS)—where he took only one wicket—has allowed Josh Hazlewood of RCB (18 wickets) and Prasidh Krishna of Gujarat Titans (GT) (17 wickets) to edge ahead. Noor remains at No. 3 with 15 wickets.

Close behind him is Khaleel Ahmed, who picked up two wickets against PBKS, taking his tally to 14 wickets. He’s tied with Mitchell Starc of Delhi Capitals (DC) but has a better average and economy rate.
The competition is fierce below them. Yuzvendra Chahal moved up to joint-sixth after taking a four-wicket haul—including a hat-trick—against CSK, bringing his total to 13 wickets. He now shares sixth place with Harshal Patel (SRH), Arshdeep Singh (PBKS), Krunal Pandya (RCB), Varun Chakravarthy (KKR), and Trent Boult (MI).
In the Orange Cap race, RR vs MI tonight could shake up the leaderboard. Suryakumar Yadav (No. 3) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (No. 4) are just 29 and 30 runs behind Sai Sudharsan, the current leader. By the end of Thursday, one of them might take over the top spot.
RCB’s Virat Kohli remains in second, while Jos Buttler (GT) and Nicholas Pooran (LSG) have crossed the 400-run mark, keeping things interesting.
After a few low scores, Shreyas Iyer has been boosted by a 72-run knock against CSK, moving up to No. 10 with 360 runs.
