CSK Matches in IPL 2022: MS Dhoni’s Chennai Super Kings to begin season vs KKR, check CSK’s schedule

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will begin their campaign in IPL 2022 against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), who will be led a new captain Shreyas Iyer on March 26 at Wankhede stadium in Mumbai.

Dhoni’s CSK meets Rohit Sharma’s MI twice in the season. CSK play MI on April 21 and May 12 and both of them are evening matches. 

The BCCI on Sunday announced the schedule of the cash-rich league, which will be played across four venues — Wankhede Stadium and Cricket Club of India in Mumbai, DY Patil stadium in Navi Mumbai and Maharashtra Cricket Association stadium in Pune.

“A total number of 70 league matches and 4 playoff games will be played in the duration of 65 days,” BCCI secretary Jay Shah said in a media release.

There will be 12 double-headers in the tournament and on such days, the first game will be played at 3.30pm and the evening matches will be played at 7.30pm.

The first-double header will be played on March 27 with a day-game at the Brabourne stadium (CCI) where the Delhi Capitals will square off five-time champions Mumbai Indians.

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings to face Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 season-opener

MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will square off against Kolkata Knight Riders in the opening game of IPL 2022. CSK are the defending champions while KKR ended up as the runners-up of IPL 2021. Shreyas Iyer will be leading KKR. The last league stage match of the season will take place on May 22 while the final will be played on May 29.

Defending Champions Chennai Super Kings (CSK) will take on Shreyas Iyer-led Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in the season-opener of IPL 2022 on March 26. The fixture will take place at the Wankhede Stadium from 7:30 PM IST. On day 2, Mumbai Indians will take on Delhi Capitals in their first fixture.In the evening fixture, Punjab Kings will face Royal Challengers Bangalore. The afternoon matches will have a 3:30 PM start while the evening matches will start at 7:30 PM IST. The last league stage fixture will be played on May 22 at Wankhede Stadium. The final of the tournament will be played on May 29. The venue for playoffs hasn’t been announced.

The teams have been divided into two groups. CSK highlight Group B whereas Mumbai Indians are at the top of Group A.

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), Rajasthan Royals (RR), Delhi Capitals (DC) and Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) are other 4 teams in Group A. Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH), Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), Punjab Kings (PBKS) and Gujarat Titans (GT) are other 4 teams in Group B.

As per the rules, a team in Group A will face other teams of its group twice. It will also play 2 matches against the team in the same row in another group. Since CSK and MI are in the same row, they will square off twice despite being in different groups. MI will face SRH, RCB, PBKS and GT once.

The BCCI has already confirmed that each team will play 14 league stage matches. Wankhede Stadium, MI’s home ground, and DY Patil Stadium will be hosting 20 matches each. Brabourne Stadium and Pune’s MCA Stadium will stage 15 matches each.

CSK have already kicked off their preparations for the season in Surat. Dhoni has also landed in the camp and is heading the proceedings. The national players will join their respective IPL teams after the end of the Sri Lanka series. Australian players are confirmed to miss the start of IPL 2022.
