Blocking Out the Noise
Dan Worrall remains unfazed by speculation about his potential England Test debut in the upcoming Ashes series. Despite being one of Surrey’s standout bowlers, the Australian-born seamer is keeping his focus on County Cricket.
“There are some things that take space in my head, but this is not one of them,” Worrall said. “I’m just trying to do my best for the team I’m representing. With two kids under three, that keeps me busy most of the time anyway.”
Surrey Success & England Eligibility
Worrall, who has played a crucial role in Surrey’s three consecutive County Championship titles, has been a reliable wicket-taker. His move from Australia to England, made possible by his UK passport, has revitalized his career.
“We thought it would be a great challenge, a chance to gain life experience and play in a different environment. Luckily, I’ve played at an amazing club, and we’ve won three championships,” he said.
Ashes Aspirations?

Despite his impressive performances, Worrall is realistic about his role in an Ashes series. He acknowledges that England’s best chance in Australia lies with pace and bounce, rather than swing bowling.
“If you want my honest answer? Probably not!” Worrall admitted when asked about his Ashes prospects. “In Australia, it’s more about being tall, fast, or accurate. The way England are setting up their fast-bowling cartel—with guys like Gus Atkinson, Brydon Carse, and Mark Wood—is the right approach.”
Still Open to England Call
While Worrall isn’t letting the speculation affect him, he hasn’t ruled out representing England if an opportunity arises.
“I haven’t thought about it, but everyone else keeps talking about it. I’m just going to do my best for Surrey and enjoy another successful season at The Oval,” he said.
