India’s women’s cricket team closed out their five–match Twenty20 International series against Sri Lanka with a dominant 5–0 clean sweep, highlighted by a historic performance from off-spinner Deepti Sharma. The final match, played in Thiruvananthapuram, saw India secure a 15-run victory and cap off an impressive finish to the tour.
In the decisive game, India posted a competitive total of 175 for five, powered by a solid innings from captain Harmanpreet Kaur, who scored a brisk 68 runs. Sri Lanka fought back with noteworthy contributions from Imesha Dulani and Hasini Perera — who scored 50 and 65 respectively — but the required run rate consistently climbed out of reach for the visitors as India’s bowlers tightened the grip.
Among India’s bowling attack, Deepti Sharma delivered one of the most remarkable moments of the series. She dismissed Nilakshika Silva leg before wicket during the 14th over of the final match to claim her 152nd wicket in women’s T20 Internationals. That dismissal moved her past Australia’s Megan Schutt to become the leading wicket-taker in women’s T20I history, a record reflecting performances across 134 matches at an average of 18.62.
Deepti’s record-breaking wicket was a fitting highlight of a series in which India’s bowlers consistently applied pressure, with spin and pace working in tandem to restrict Sri Lanka’s batting lineup. Vaishnavi Sharma and Amanjot Kaur also made notable impacts with their bowling spells in the final encounter.

The team’s overall performance in this series continued a strong run of form for India’s women, following their recent successes on bigger stages earlier in the season. While Sri Lanka put up competitive resistance at times, India’s deeper batting lineup and disciplined bowling unit ensured they stayed firmly in control throughout the tour.
As official records now show Deepti Sharma at the top of the women’s T20I wicket-takers list, the team and supporters celebrated another landmark achievement for Indian women’s cricket.
