Dodda Ganesh, a 51-year-old former Indian cricketer, has been named the head coach of Kenya’s men’s cricket team.

Dodda Ganesh, who played a few matches for India without much success, had a decent career in first-class cricket with Karnataka, where he scored over 2000 runs and took 365 wickets.

His new challenge is to help Kenya return to its past cricketing glory. Kenya was once a strong team, competing in five World Cups from 1996 to 2011. Their best performance was in 2003 when they reached the semifinals under Indian coach Sandeep Patil. However, Kenyan cricket has struggled in recent years and has only qualified for one T20 World Cup, which was in 2007.

Kenya will be competing against teams like Papua New Guinea, Qatar, Denmark, and Jersey in upcoming tournaments, including the ICC Division 2 Challenge League in September and the T20 World Cup Africa Qualifiers in October.

Dodda Ganesh expressed his excitement about the new role, saying, “I’m privileged to be named the head coach of the Kenya cricket team.”

In a video shared by the media, Ganesh is shown talking with senior Kenya cricket officials.

He will be supported by former Kenyan players, Lameck Onyango and Joseph Angara, who will serve as his assistants.
