Defending champions India have begun their ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 campaign with a roar. Following a resounding victory against the USA at a packed Wankhede Stadium, the “Men in Blue” are now the overwhelming favorites to lift the trophy.
According to a new poll by official broadcaster JioStar, an astounding 96% of cricket experts back India to go all the way and defend their title.
The Verdict: Unanimous Support

The consensus is nearly absolute. Every single one of the 46 experts surveyed predicted that India would reach the final. Furthermore, the vast majority believe they will win it all.
This list of backers includes legends and former World Cup winners such as:
- Anil Kumble (Former Test Captain)
- Irfan Pathan (2007 T20 World Cup Winner)
- Piyush Chawla (2007 T20 World Cup Winner)
- Aaron Finch (Former Australia Captain)
- Sunil Gavaskar (Batting Legend)
Who Will Meet India in the Final?
While India’s spot in the final seems guaranteed in the eyes of the pundits, the opponent is up for debate.
- India vs. Australia: More than one-third of the experts predict a repeat of the 2023 ODI World Cup final.
- India vs. South Africa: About 30% foresee a rematch of the 2024 T20 World Cup final.
Semi-Final Predictions
Beyond the finalists, the experts weighed in on the top four. Alongside India, the popular choices for semi-finalists include Australia, England, and South Africa.
Former New Zealand bowler Danny Morrison explained his picks:
“Co-host India in their own backyard, this blue juggernaut is hard to stop… I’m going to go with New Zealand because they just played in India… Then England, and fourth South Africa, because a lot of these players have played in the Indian Premier League and have got experience in those conditions.”
