PBKS (Punjab Kings) allrounder Glenn Maxwell has been ruled out for the remainder of IPL 2025 after suffering a finger injury on his right hand.
PBKS captain Shreyas Iyer expressed his disappointment, saying, “It’s very unfortunate that he’s got a fractured finger.” He added, “We haven’t decided on replacements yet, but our team remains strong. We have a variety of players who can win matches.”
Marcus Stoinis also confirmed that Maxwell had undergone scans, and the results were not promising. “He didn’t think it was too bad, but it ended up getting pretty bad,” Stoinis said. “Unfortunately, I think it’s likely he’ll be out for the tournament.”

Maxwell had a poor run with the bat, scoring only 48 runs in six innings, including four single-digit scores. However, his off-spin had been useful, taking four wickets. He was bought for INR 4.2 crore in the last mega auction.
This injury adds to the problems for PBKS, who had already lost Lockie Ferguson to a serious injury earlier this month. However, they haven’t named a replacement for him yet.
PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting said, “We will be signing replacements soon. We have until our 12th game to make a decision.” Ponting also mentioned that the team is looking at young Indian players and has been patient, especially with the PSL (Pakistan Super League) running concurrently.
“We have a couple of guys trained with us, and we’ll have a closer look at them in Dharamsala. They could end up with a Punjab contract,” Ponting added.
PBKS are currently in second place on the points table, just behind Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB). CSK is the only team currently eliminated from the playoffs race.
