In a crucial encounter, Gujarat Titans (GT) overcame Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) by 38 runs, a result that left SRH’s playoff hopes hanging by a thread. With their remaining games all must-win, SRH’s chances are slim, as they need significant victories to progress to the playoffs.
Gujarat Titans Dominate with Batting Firepower
GT posted a mammoth 224/6, thanks to stellar performances from Shubman Gill (76), Jos Buttler (64), and B Sai Sudharsan (48). Their aggressive start in the powerplay, coupled with contributions in the middle overs, ensured that the Titans set an above-par total on a slow black-soil pitch.
Despite SRH’s best efforts, spearheaded by Abhishek Sharma’s 74, the GT bowlers, led by Prasidh Krishna’s 2/19, restricted SRH’s chase. A disciplined bowling effort, including a strong performance from Krishna and an off-day for Rashid Khan, who went for 50 runs in three overs, sealed SRH’s fate.

A Strong Start for GT
GT’s top order came out firing, with Sudharsan and Gill capitalizing on the sluggish SRH bowling attack. Shami’s misfires and Pat Cummins’ delivery of half-volleys allowed Gill and Sudharsan to set the tone. Their 82-run opening partnership was GT’s best-ever in a powerplay.
Despite some resistance from SRH bowlers, GT’s top three remained in control throughout the innings, with Buttler also contributing with a key knock of 64 from 37 balls. The Titans were able to post a score that was well beyond SRH’s reach, despite some tight bowling from Cummins and Unadkat later on.
SRH’s Response Falls Short
Chasing 225, SRH started strong with Abhishek and Travis Head making early inroads. However, the required run rate quickly escalated as Prasidh Krishna used hard lengths to stifle the batters, leaving Abhishek as the sole warrior in the middle. With wickets falling in quick succession, SRH could not keep up with the asking rate, leaving them with little chance to reach the target.
GT’s victory pushed them to second place on the points table, with 14 points, equal to Mumbai Indians but with a game in hand. Meanwhile, SRH faces a near-impossible task to reach the playoffs, with their fate now in the hands of other teams.
