Imad Wasim Makes PSL History with Five Wickets in Final

In the Pakistan Super League (PSL) season nine final between Islamabad United and Multan Sultans at the National Bank Stadium in Karachi, Imad Wasim, the all-rounder for Islamabad United, achieved something remarkable. At 35 years old, Imad became the first player ever to take five wickets in a PSL final. His left-arm spin bowling proved to be lethal as he finished his four-over spell with figures of 5-23.

Imad’s outstanding performance began right from the start of the innings. He made a significant impact by taking two wickets in his very first over, dismissing the well-set Yasir Khan and David Willey. Throughout the match, Imad continued to bewitch the Multan Sultans batters, claiming the wickets of Khushdil Shah, Johnson Charles, and Chris Jordan, thus becoming the first player to achieve a five-wicket haul in a PSL final.

Imad Wasim’s contributions weren’t limited to this match alone. Throughout the PSL season nine, he proved to be a crucial player for Islamabad United. He played pivotal roles in several must-win matches for his team, showcasing his skills both with the ball and the bat.

On the batting front, Multan Sultans faced an early setback as their captain, Mohammad Rizwan, was dismissed by Islamabad’s fast bowler Naseem Shah. However, luck favored Rizwan as he survived due to a no-ball. But the Sultans couldn’t capitalize on this opportunity as Imad Wasim struck early again, removing Yasir Khan and David Willey.

Despite losing two wickets, Multan Sultans managed to steady their innings with Rizwan and Usman Khan forming a crucial partnership. However, the departure of Rizwan shifted the momentum towards Islamabad United. Although Usman Khan played well and scored a half-century, he couldn’t stay long enough as he was dismissed by Shadab Khan.

As the match progressed, it seemed like Multan Sultans might not reach a competitive total. However, Iftikhar’s determined effort ensured that they posted a challenging score, providing their bowlers with something to defend in the final.
