Former India Batting Coach Likely To Replace VVS Laxman As NCA Head

VVS Laxman’s contract as head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru will end in September.

Former Indian men’s cricket team batting coach Vikram Rathour, whose contract ended last month, is expected to replace VVS Laxman as the new head of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. According to Sports Tak, Laxman’s contract as NCA head will end in September, and it seems he may not renew it.

A source told Sports Tak, “It looks very likely that Rathour will take over at the NCA. Right now, a decision on Laxman’s contract renewal is still pending, but the discussions haven’t been positive.”

An official announcement will be made after BCCI secretary Jay Shah returns from Sri Lanka, where he is attending the ICC’s annual general meeting. Shah will then talk with VVS Laxman to discuss his future.

Rathour, who is 55 years old, played six Tests and seven ODIs for India during his international career. He became India’s batting coach in August 2019, following Sanjay Bangar’s departure, and was retained when Rahul Dravid became head coach in November 2021.

Laxman, who took over as NCA head from Dravid in November 2021, also served as India’s interim head coach for the T20I series against Zimbabwe earlier this month. Under his guidance, the young Indian team led by Shubman Gill won the series 4-1 after losing the first match.

Laxman has also acted as India’s interim head coach before, including during the T20I series against Australia last year and the India tour of Ireland and South Africa ODI series in 2022.
