India Likely to Tour Sri Lanka for White-Ball Series After Bangladesh Tour Postponement

India’s scheduled white-ball tour of Bangladesh has been officially pushed to September 2026, and in its place, a new series is in the works. According to reports, the BCCI and Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) are in active discussions to arrange a bilateral series in mid-August.

If finalized, the tour will include three ODIs and three T20Is, offering both teams crucial match practice ahead of upcoming tournaments.

India was originally slated to visit Bangladesh for the same format of matches in August, but the tour was deferred due to a congested international calendar. With that window now open, Sri Lanka has emerged as a strong alternative host.

Adding to the scheduling flexibility, the Lanka Premier League (LPL)—which was set for July-August—has also been postponed. This has cleared room on Sri Lanka’s domestic calendar to accommodate an international series.

Sri Lanka is due to tour Zimbabwe from August 29, which means the only viable window to host India is likely during the second and third weeks of August.

India’s last visit to Sri Lanka in 2024 marked the start of Gautam Gambhir’s coaching era. The Men in Blue won the T20I series, but Sri Lanka bounced back to take the ODI leg 2-0.

While an official confirmation is still pending, talks are said to be progressing positively. If finalized, fans could be in for a surprise mid-year showdown between two spirited white-ball sides.
