Earlier, Smriti Mandhana and Harmanpreet Kaur scored brilliant tons to help India reach 317/8. Smriti hit 123 while Harmanpreet scored 109 to control run-flow in the Indian innings. India won the toss and elected to bat first before Yastika Bhatia produced a brisk 31 to help the team get off to a flier. She departed after a 21-ball 31, which was followed by the exit of Mithali Raj (5) and Deepti Sharma (15), leaving India tottering at 78/3. “Couldn’t have asked for a better effort from the girls. The way they stepped up in a crunch game like this. It had a lot to do with the nerves, Everybody knew about the importance of this game. We needed to step up,” says Mithali.

However, Deandra Dottin, who top-scored with 62 off 46 balls for women from the Caribbean, was feeling uncomfortable with injury and got out eventually to Sneh Rana. Post her dismissal, the rest of the team fell for only 62 more runs as West Indies were all out for 162 in the 41st over. Sneh Rana finished with figures of 3/22 in her 9.3 overs.
Earlier in the day, the Indian team got to a great total as centuries from Mandhana and Harmanpreet took the women in blue to 317/8 in the 50 overs. Those two were the pillars of strength for the teams as they added 184 for the fourth wicket, the highest ever fourth-wicket stand for India Women in ODIs. The West Indies bowlers were off the mark and Anisa Mohammed picked two wickets for 59 runs.
