England's Jacob Bethell, Jordan Cox set to debut against Australia

Jamie Overton, who played his first Test match for England in 2022, has now been chosen to make his debut in T20I, joining Jacob Bethell and Cox on the team.

All-rounder Jacob Bethell and wicketkeeper Jordon Cox will make their T20 international debuts for England when they face Australia in the first of a three-game series on Wednesday, September 11, at the Rose Bowl in Southampton.

On Tuesday, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) announced the playing XI for the match, revealing that Phil Salt would captain the team in place of Jos Buttler, who is out due to injury.

Jamie Overton, who made his Test debut for England in 2022, has also been chosen to play his first Twenty20 International. Despite his reputation as an all-rounder, Overton will bat this time, especially since he has not bowled in recent domestic tournaments such as The Hundred and the T20 Blast.

The European Cricket Board tweeted, “Jordan Cox, Jacob Bethell, and Jamie Overton will all make their England IT20 debut.”

Cox has previously been named to England’s Test squad for series against the West Indies and Sri Lanka, but Bethell is making his debut. Bethell rose to prominence during the 2022 U-19 World Cup, in which England advanced to the final.
