Sri Lanka won an emotional 32-run victory over India in the second ODI in Colombo, thanks to Jeffrey Vandersay’s incredible six-wicket performance. Vandersay, stepping in for the injured Wanindu Hasaranga, took six wickets for 33 runs, derailing India’s chase of 241.
India ended up at 208 all out in 42.2 overs. Rohit Sharma scored a powerful 64 off 44 balls, hitting five fours and four sixes, but his dismissal by Jeffrey Vandersay triggered a collapse.
India was looking good at 97 for 1, but they quickly stumbled to 116 for 3, and eventually, 147 for 6. Vandersay’s magic was too much, with Shubman Gill, Shivam Dube, Virat Kohli, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul, and Axar Patel all falling prey to his bowling.
Axar Patel (44 off 44 balls) and Washington Sundar tried to keep India in the game with a 38-run partnership, but it wasn’t enough.

Earlier, India’s bowlers had put pressure on Sri Lanka, reducing them to 136 for 6. Washington Sundar (3/30) and Kuldeep Yadav (2/33) were the standout bowlers. However, a crucial 72-run partnership between Dunith Wellalage (39) and Kamindu Mendis (40) helped Sri Lanka reach a competitive 240 for 9.
The Indian bowlers struggled in the last five overs, allowing Sri Lanka to add 44 important runs. This set the stage for Vandersay’s heroics, leading Sri Lanka to a series lead of 1-0 after the first match ended in a tie.
