Tom Moody praised KL Rahul’s unbeaten 112 off 65 balls against Gujarat Titans on Sunday, calling it an “outstanding innings” despite the Delhi Capitals’ loss.

Rahul faced criticism over his strike rate in T20 cricket again, but Moody defended him strongly. Rahul’s century came at a strike rate of 172.30, and his overall IPL 2025 strike rate stands at 148.04, the best he’s posted since 2018.

“I find the criticism around KL Rahul quite extraordinary,” Moody said on ESPNcricinfo’s Time Out. “He’s a lot better player than a lot of people give him credit for. The way I look at this innings, it was outstanding.”

Moody emphasized that while Rahul anchored the innings well, the lack of impact from other batters was the bigger issue. “On a batting-friendly surface, you want impact. When someone anchors, your role is to hit those quick 30 off 10-ball bursts to push the total higher.”

He also noted how Rahul’s momentum was affected when he faced very few balls during a key middle phase. “Between overs 15 and 18, Rahul faced just six balls, which made him lose rhythm. The team had chances to push beyond 220 but didn’t capitalize. Cricket is a team sport, and better communication is needed to maximize scoring during those crucial overs.”
