Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel showered praise on his spin twins, Kuldeep Yadav and Vipraj Nigam, after a clinical six-wicket win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru at Chinnaswamy.
On a sticky and turning surface, the wristspinners were outstanding — Kuldeep took 2 for 17 in his 4 overs, while Vipraj bagged 2 for 18, including a crucial over in the powerplay where he gave away just 2 runs.
Axar said:
“Kuldeep has been doing this for years, but being consistent in the IPL is tough. As for Vipraj, he was under pressure in the first two games, but now he’s bowling with confidence, especially when he volunteered to bowl the 18th over tonight. That’s what a captain loves.”
He also explained the tactical use of spin in the powerplay, highlighting how he avoided using pacers early because RCB’s openers prefer pace. He bowled the second over himself (which went for 16) but noticed the pitch was sticky and aiding turn.
“The ball was sticking and had bounce, so I realized spin was key. Later, wristspinners started getting more turn. I may have overdone it with the 19th over myself – gave away 17 runs – but hey, we won!”
