Mumbai Indians (MI) continued their hot streak in IPL 2025, securing their fourth consecutive win with a dominant seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on April 23. After a stellar bowling performance from Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar restricted SRH to a modest total of 143 for 8, MI cruised to victory, with Rohit Sharma scoring his second successive half-century.

Boult and Chahar Set Up the Win

MI’s bowlers set the tone early, with Boult and Chahar exploiting the conditions at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium. Both bowlers made crucial inroads during the powerplay, reducing SRH to a perilous 24 for 4. Chahar struck early, and Boult followed suit, picking up key wickets, including that of Ishan Kishan. The SRH batters struggled against the swing and the stopping surface, and MI’s disciplined bowling left them reeling at 35 for 5 by the ninth over.

Heinrich Klaasen (71 off 44 balls) and Impact Player Abhinav Manohar (43 off 37 balls) provided some much-needed resistance, putting on a 99-run partnership for the sixth wicket. Despite their efforts, SRH’s total of 143 was never going to challenge MI’s strong batting lineup.

Klaasen’s Resilience Amid Collapse

Klaasen’s knock was a testament to his skill and composure under pressure. His innings was a calculated mix of aggressive strokes and controlled play, finishing with a strike rate of over 160. He hit a memorable reverse-scooped six off Jasprit Bumrah in the 19th over, showcasing his range of shots. However, Bumrah dismissed him in the final over, and Boult wrapped up the innings with a rare hit-wicket dismissal to end SRH’s hopes of posting a competitive total.

Rohit’s Commanding Half-Century

In reply, MI started confidently despite the early dismissal of Ryan Rickelton. Rohit Sharma, who had been improving with each match, continued his fine form, scoring a fluent 70 runs off 49 balls. He started the chase with a beautifully timed six, and his boundary hitting was the highlight of the innings. Even after his dismissal, MI were well on track, needing just 14 from 32 balls, with Suryakumar Yadav (40* off 19 balls) playing an explosive knock to seal the win with 26 balls to spare.

MI’s Strong Momentum

With this win, MI moved to third place in the points table, building significant momentum after a slow start to the season. Having now won four consecutive matches, they are looking more formidable with every passing game. SRH, on the other hand, continue to struggle, sitting second from the bottom with just two wins in eight games.

As the tournament progresses, MI’s all-round performance, led by Boult’s brilliant bowling and Rohit’s return to form, has them in a strong position to challenge for the playoffs. Meanwhile, SRH will need to regroup and find a way to address their batting fragility if they are to turn their season around.
