Mohammad Amir Breaks Silence on India’s T20 World Cup 2026 Win After Predictions Backfire

Former Pakistan fast bowler found himself making headlines during the for his bold predictions regarding the Indian cricket team.

Amir initially stunned viewers by correctly predicting India’s loss against South Africa in the Super 8 stage—a spot-on analysis that led to his fellow panelists on a Pakistani TV show jokingly calling him an “astrologer.” However, he followed that up with a bold prediction that India would not reach the semifinals. That is where it all went wrong for the former pacer.

Amir’s Blunt Reaction to India’s Victory

India successfully won their remaining matches to reach the semifinals. Despite Amir consistently predicting their downfall, the -led side went on to clinch the trophy by defeating in the final.

Ahead of the post-match show Harna Maana Hai, Amir was asked about India’s historic triumph. Visibly frustrated by his predictions backfiring, he responded bluntly:

“They won, that’s fine; they’ll take the cup home. They won’t bring it to my house. Well done…”

Gambhir Dedicates Win to Dravid and Laxman

Meanwhile, India head coach stated on Sunday that he is only accountable to the people inside the dressing room. Following the spectacular 96-run shellacking of New Zealand in the summit clash, India became the first team to win three T20 World Cups (2007, 2024, 2026), the first to defend their title, and the first to do so on home soil.

During the post-match press conference, Gambhir brushed off outside noise:

“My accountability is not for people on social media. My accountability is to those 30 people in that change room. A coach is as good as his team. Players made me the coach I am.”

Even in the hour of his glory, Gambhir made sure to share the credit with the architects of India’s recent developmental success. He dedicated the trophy to former head coach , who guided the team to triumph in 2024, and , the current head of the .

“I would dedicate this trophy to Rahul Dravid and VVS Laxman. To Rahul bhai for putting the Indian team in a place, and Laxman for creating a pipeline at the CoE,” Gambhir added.
