MS Dhoni recently spoke about his future in the IPL as the BCCI met with team owners to plan for the upcoming season.
Chennai Super Kings‘ former captain, Dhoni, isn’t too concerned about his IPL future right now. Every year, there are questions about his future in the league, especially towards the end of the season. This year, Dhoni handed over the captaincy to opener Ruturaj Gaikwad, and the team narrowly missed the playoffs, finishing 5th.
Dhoni turned 43 in July and was mainly used as a six-hitter at the end of the innings this season. He made significant contributions in the lower order, hitting 13 sixes and 14 fours in just 73 balls. His strike rate of 220.54 was the highest in his IPL career and the first time it exceeded 200 in a season.
When asked if he would play another season for the Super Kings, Ms Dhoni didn’t give a clear answer.

“There is a lot of time for it,” MS Dhoni said at an event in Hyderabad. “We have to see what decision they take on player retention etc. Right now, the ball is not in our court.
“So, once the rules and regulations get formalised, I will take a call, but needs to be in the best interest of the team.”
The BCCI met with IPL owners to discuss plans for the next season, including the possibility of a mega auction, bringing back the Right to Match (RTM) option, and keeping the Impact Player rule.
Last year, Dhoni had knee surgery after leading CSK to victory in the final against Gujarat Titans. The IPL is the only cricket Dhoni plays now, having retired from international cricket in August 2020. He played in all 14 matches for CSK in the 2024 season and also kept wickets.
