Mumbai Indians (MI) struggled to reach a total of 155 for 8 in their IPL match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on May 6, 2025, after being at 97 for 2 at one point. Despite a valiant half-century from Will Jacks, the late collapse saw MI lose 6 wickets for just 58 runs in the final 9.3 overs. The Gujarat Titans’ bowlers, led by Rashid Khan and R Sai Kishore, turned the game in their favor after MI looked set for a more substantial score.

The key turning points came in the form of dropped catches, with MI being let off three times during their innings. Will Jacks was dropped twice, while Suryakumar Yadav also got a reprieve. Despite the missed chances, the GT bowlers showed remarkable discipline to rein in MI’s scoring. Rashid Khan, recovering from a tough outing in his previous match, finished with figures of 4-0-21-1, and R Sai Kishore impressed by dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

The early breakthrough came from Mohammed Siraj, who removed Ryan Rickleton in the first over. Arshad Khan continued to trouble Rohit Sharma with his left-arm seam, while Prasidh Krishna, with his 20th wicket of the season, further tightened the screws on MI’s batting line-up.

Jacks (53) and Suryakumar (35) were the primary contributors, adding 71 runs together in 7.1 overs. Jacks registered his first half-century for MI, but the pair couldn’t completely assert dominance over the spinners. Rashid Khan came close to dismissing Jacks several times, forcing him into multiple false shots before eventually having him caught at deep square leg.

R Sai Kishore, operating with a well-thought-out field placement, managed to get the better of Suryakumar by drawing a catch at long-off. Kishore then claimed the crucial wicket of Hardik Pandya, who top-edged a slog sweep.

The momentum continued to shift in GT’s favor as Prasidh and Gerald Coetzee capitalized on MI’s faltering batting, picking up quick wickets of Tilak Varma and Naman Dhir. Rashid Khan delivered a brilliant 18th over, conceding just four runs, and Corbin Bosch’s two sixes off Prasidh Krishna in the last over helped MI cross the 150 mark.

Despite the late flurry from Bosch, MI could not build on the strong start from Jacks and Suryakumar, leaving GT with a relatively modest target to chase. The Gujarat Titans’ bowlers displayed excellent depth and control, making MI’s innings an uphill struggle after a promising beginning.
