Nepal vs Namibia: Namibia’s Loftie-Eaton smashes fastest T20I Hundred

In the series opener of the Nepal-Namibia-Netherlands T20 tri-series at Kathmandu, Namibia’s Jan Nicol Loftie-Eaton etched his name in the record books by smashing the fastest T20I century. Loftie-Eaton’s remarkable feat came off just 33 balls, breaking the previous record.

Facing a challenging situation with his team struggling at 62-3 in the 11th over, Loftie-Eaton wasted no time in making an impact. After a slight hiccup with the dismissal of Jan Frylinck, Loftie-Eaton swiftly settled in with a single, followed by a powerful six off Gulshan Jha’s delivery. His aggressive approach, complemented by Malan Kruger’s steady support, dismantled the home team’s bowling attack.

Loftie-Eaton’s innings was a display of innovation and aggression, marked by eight sixes and an array of unconventional shots. Despite the challenging pitch conditions, his hitting prowess knew no bounds. His century came off a mere 33 legitimate deliveries, setting a new record in T20 internationals.

Following his dismissal for a stunning 101 off 36 balls, Kruger and stand-in skipper JJ Smit ensured Namibia set a formidable target of 207 for the hosts. Despite Kushal Malla’s valiant efforts in the Nepal reply, Namibia emerged victorious by 20 runs, thanks to Ruben Trumpelmann’s stellar bowling performance.

Loftie-Eaton’s record-breaking century will be remembered as a historic moment in T20 cricket. As Namibia celebrates this achievement, they gear up to face the Netherlands in their next match, while Nepal aims for a quick turnaround against the Dutch.
