New Zealand secured their place in the ICC Champions Trophy final after a commanding 50-run victory over South Africa in Lahore. Led by centuries from Rachin Ravindra and Kane Williamson, the Black Caps posted a record-breaking 362/6 before their bowlers, spearheaded by Mitchell Santner, defended the total efficiently.

Match Summary:

  • New Zealand: 362/6 (50 overs)
    • Rachin Ravindra – 108 (101)
    • Kane Williamson – 102 (91)
    • Lungi Ngidi – 3/72
    • Kagiso Rabada – 2/70
  • South Africa: 312/9 (50 overs)
    • David Miller – 100* (67)
    • Rassie van der Dussen – 69 (65)
    • Mitchell Santner – 3/43
    • Glenn Phillips – 2/27

Ravindra and Williamson Lay the Foundation

Opting to bat first, New Zealand had an explosive start despite losing Will Young early. Ravindra played an aggressive knock, maintaining a strike rate above 100, while Williamson adopted a more composed approach before accelerating later. Their 164-run partnership, the highest in Champions Trophy history for New Zealand, set the stage for a massive total. Contributions from Daryl Mitchell (49) and Glenn Phillips (49*) helped New Zealand add 83 runs in the last six overs.

South Africa’s Struggle with the Chase

South Africa’s chase began with promise but faltered under scoreboard pressure. Captain Temba Bavuma and van der Dussen built a steady partnership, but Santner’s spell turned the tide. He removed Bavuma, van der Dussen, and Heinrich Klaasen, leaving South Africa with an uphill battle. Despite Miller’s valiant century, the Proteas fell short, marking yet another ICC semi-final heartbreak.

New Zealand’s Final Challenge: India

With this victory, New Zealand advances to their seventh ICC final and their fourth in the ODI format. They will face India in Dubai on Sunday, looking to end their long wait for an ICC ODI trophy since 2000.
