The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to host the big event entirely within Pakistan and is not open to the idea of a shared hosting model.
The BCCI has reportedly decided not to travel to Pak for the upcoming Champions Trophy in 2025. Instead, they are likely to ask the ICC to set up a hybrid model for the tournament, allowing India to play its matches in another country.
On the other hand, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is determined to host the entire event in Pakistan and is not open to the idea of a hybrid model.
According to some media reports, if India doesn’t go to Pakistan for the Champions Trophy 2025, the Pak cricket team may boycott the 2026 World Cup in India.
The last time India visited Pakistan was in 2008 for the Asia Cup. Since then, political tensions have prevented the Indian team from traveling to Pakistan for any series or events.
A similar issue arose during the Asia Cup 2023 when the BCCI refused to play in Pakistan. The ICC suggested a hybrid model, which both sides accepted, but Pakistan ended up not hosting the semi-final and final matches.

Pakistan to have a new captain
Besides the ICC meeting, everyone is also looking at the PCB, as fans are eagerly waiting to hear who the next Pakistan cricket captain will be. Currently, the team doesn’t have an official ODI captain. The new captain will lead the team in upcoming home games. Pakistan has been without an ODI captain since the 2023 World Cup.
Shan Masood is currently the Test captain for Pakistan. Babar Azam is the T20I captain, but he might lose his position soon. Under Babar’s leadership, Pakistan was eliminated in the league stage of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
