The race for the top spots in Major League Cricket 2025 tightened further after the Texas Super Kings sealed a dominant 43-run victory over Washington Freedom in a rain-shortened clash on Wednesday evening in Lauderhill.
The match was reduced to just five overs per side, but TSK made the most of every ball. Their win lifted them to second place on the points table. With this result, both teams are now tied on 12 points after eight games each, alongside San Francisco Unicorns, who remain on top thanks to a superior net run-rate.
Freedom won the toss and chose to field, a decision that initially seemed to pay off. Marcus Stoinis fell early for just 2, while Daryl Mitchell was retired out on 6. However, the momentum quickly swung back in TSK’s favor.

At No. 3, Shubham Ranjane smashed 39 off 14 deliveries. Meanwhile, Donovan Ferreira unleashed a stunning blitz, hammering 37 not out from just nine balls. Together, they piled on an unbroken 53-run stand in only 12 deliveries, lifting TSK to a daunting 87 for 2 in their allotted five overs.
Washington’s chase got off to a nightmare start. Nandre Burger struck twice in the first over, removing Rachin Ravindra (10) and Glenn Maxwell (0) off consecutive deliveries. Akeal Hosein then chipped in with the wicket of Mitchell Owen in the second over, leaving the Freedom reeling.
Although Glenn Phillips tried to steady the innings with an unbeaten 18 off 11 balls, Freedom never recovered. They finished on 44 for 4, well short of the target.
Overall, Freedom managed just three fours and three sixes, while TSK’s innings was lit up by Ranjane and Ferreira, who combined for four fours and eight sixes.
With the playoffs approaching, this result could prove crucial in the fight for the top two spots and a direct path to the final.
