The race for the top two spots in IPL 2025 is heating up, and Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) are very much in the mix. But instead of hosting their final league games in Bengaluru, the weather gods and scheduling chaos have sent them back to Lucknow—not once, but twice.

RCB: From Rain Delays to Relocation

On May 7, RCB were riding high after doing the double over Chennai Super Kings. Spirits were soaring, and so were their chances of a top-two finish. But just before their game against LSG in Lucknow, IPL 2025 was suddenly put on hold.

Since then, it’s been frustrating. Players went home, came back, dodged rain in Bengaluru, and saw their highly anticipated home clash against KKR washed out. When they finally got a new matchday—Friday in Lucknow—it wasn’t the return they expected, but it’s a chance to regroup and rise.

The Playoff Equation: What RCB Need

RCB have already sealed a playoffs berth, their fifth in six seasons. But the dream is bigger. To finish in the top two (and get that crucial Qualifier 1 advantage), RCB must win both their remaining games and hope Gujarat Titans or Punjab Kings drop at least one.

With the team already familiar with Lucknow conditions—and an unbeaten away record to show for it—they’ll back themselves to get the job done.

SRH: Playing for Pride, Eyeing 2026

Sunrisers Hyderabad, meanwhile, are out of the playoffs but far from demotivated. They regrouped quickly after a mid-season Maldives break and came back strong, beating LSG convincingly. Now, they’re looking to test combinations and aim for a respectable finish.

Mayank Agarwal might finally get a go in the top order for RCB, while Travis Head—back from a Covid layoff—wants to finish strong. His pairing with Abhishek Sharma, once called “Travishek,” has dipped in form but could still deliver fireworks.

Players to Watch

  • Rajat Patidar (RCB): After a dip in form before the break, Patidar now looks recharged. His away stats—two fifties and a 169 strike rate—are far better than his numbers at home.
  • Travis Head (SRH): A season of missed starts and Covid setbacks. Can he bounce back with a bang?
  • Tim David (RCB): Most sixes (11) in overs 17–20 this season. If the game goes deep, expect fireworks.

Likely XIs

RCB: Phil Salt, Virat Kohli, Mayank Agarwal, Rajat Patidar (capt), Jitesh Sharma (wk), Romario Shepherd, Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Yash Dayal, Lungi Ngidi, Suyash Sharma

SRH: Travis Head, Abhishek Sharma, Ishan Kishan (wk), Nitish Reddy, Heinrich Klaasen, Aniket Verma, Abhinav Manohar, Pat Cummins (capt), Harshal Patel, Harsh Dubey, Eshan Malinga, Jaydev Unadkat

Pitch Talk: What to Expect in Lucknow

RCB have chosen a red-soil pitch for this “home” game—expect good bounce, carry, and some sharp turn. Andy Flower and Krunal Pandya’s inside knowledge of the venue, thanks to their past experience with LSG, could come in handy.

Stats That Matter

  • Virat Kohli is one half-century away from surpassing David Warner (62) for the most in IPL history. He’s coming off four consecutive 50-plus scores.
  • RCB’s death overs scoring rate is the highest among all teams this season—12.4 runs per over.
  • SRH’s spin attack has taken the fewest wickets (10) and has the highest economy rate (10.0).
  • Tim David leads the six-hitting charts in the final overs, with 11 sixes between overs 17–20.

Final Word: Crunch Time

RCB have every reason to believe. Their form, flexibility, and firepower can take them to the top two—but they’ll need focus and perhaps a little luck with results elsewhere. For SRH, it’s about ending on a high and looking ahead to 2026 with confidence.
