Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) began their WPL 2025 campaign with a historic victory, successfully chasing 202 runs against Gujarat Giants (GG)—the first-ever 200+ run chase in Women’s Premier League history.

Key Records and Stats from the Match

  • Highest Run Chase in WPL: RCB’s 202-run chase surpassed Mumbai Indians’ 191-run chase in 2024, making it the biggest successful chase in WPL history and only the second 200+ run chase in Women’s T20 cricket.
  • Highest Aggregate Runs in a WPL Match: The match saw 403 runs, the highest combined total in WPL, breaking the previous record of 391 runs set by the same teams in 2023.
  • Gardner’s Power Hitting: Ashleigh Gardner smashed 8 sixes during her unbeaten 79 off 52 balls, equaling Sophie Devine’s record for most sixes in a WPL innings.
  • Richa Ghosh’s Blazing Fifty:
    • Her 64 off 27 balls* is the second-highest score from No.5 or below in WPL.
    • She reached her fifty in just 23 balls, making it the fifth-fastest fifty in WPL history.
    • Her strike rate of 237.03 is the third-highest in a 50+ WPL score.
  • Match-Winning Partnership: Richa Ghosh and Kanika Ahuja’s 93-run stand came at an astonishing 15.08 run rate, the second-highest for a 50+ stand in WPL.
  • Most Expensive Spell: Georgia Wareham conceded 50 runs in 3 overs, registering one of the most expensive bowling figures in WPL history.
  • Mandhana vs Gardner: Ashleigh Gardner has now dismissed Smriti Mandhana 9 times in T20 cricket, the most by any bowler against her.

RCB’s thrilling win not only cemented their dominance but also set the tone for an electrifying WPL 2025 season!
