Ricky Ponting shared that back in his early playing days, he used to bet on dog races with the money he got each month. Because of this, one of his teammates gave him a nickname.
Former Australian cricket captain Ricky Ponting revealed that it was Shane Warne, his teammate, who called him ‘Punter’. Ponting explained, “We were getting $40 a month while living at the cricket academy in 1990. I used to place bets on dog races, and Shane Warne gave me the nickname.” In Australia, the word “punt” means to bet, usually on horse or dog races.

Ricky Ponting, a World Cup-winning captain, is a big fan of greyhound racing.
On Monday, Ponting showed his support for young cricketer Rishabh Pant, saying he has a lot of talent and will be back in India’s playing XI “sooner than later.”
Ponting, who works as a mentor for Delhi Capitals in the Indian Premier League (IPL), also mentioned that he’s excited to work with Pant in the upcoming IPL season.
“Rishabh Pant is very talented. I’m looking forward to working with him again in the IPL, and I believe he’ll return to the Indian team soon,” Ponting said during a chat with fans on Twitter.
Pant was recently left out of the Indian team, with KL Rahul taking on the role of wicketkeeper-batsman in the T20I series against New Zealand.
