Indian cricket team captain Rohit Sharma is reportedly planning to retire after the current five-match Test series against Australia ends.
Indian cricket captain Rohit Sharma is expected to announce his retirement from Test cricket after the ongoing five-match series against Australia, according to a report by The Times of India. The report suggests that the decision has already been discussed with top officials of the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and selectors, making it unlikely that Rohit will change his mind. While the exact timing of the announcement is unclear, it is expected to take place after the final Test in Sydney.
However, if India qualifies for the World Test Championship (WTC) Final, Rohit Sharma might request the selectors to let him stay on until the big match.

The Indian captain recently expressed his disappointment after a heavy loss to Australia in the fourth Test, admitting that both his form and the team’s performance have been weighing heavily on his mind. With only 31 runs in six innings during this series, his struggles with the bat have drawn intense scrutiny. In comparison, fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah has taken 30 wickets this series, just one fewer than Rohit’s run tally, adding to the calls for his retirement from Test cricket.
Rohit, however, is determined not to bow out without a fight. He acknowledged the challenges but said he is focused on addressing both personal and team issues.
“Where I stand today is what matters. I can’t dwell on the past. Some results haven’t gone our way, and as a captain, that is disappointing,” Rohit admitted. “Mentally, it has been tough. When things don’t go the way you want, it’s frustrating. But right now, I am trying to deal with it and focus on what lies ahead.”
The Sydney Test could be Rohit’s last in whites, but his resolve to keep fighting remains strong as he faces questions about his leadership and batting form.
