Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy appointment was MS Dhoni’s retirement announcement – IPL 2024

On March 21, the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the Indian Premier League (IPL) chose Ruturaj Gaikwad as their new captain. This happened because Mahendra Singh Dhoni decided to step down from being the captain after leading the team very successfully.

The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 is about to begin, and the excitement is building up. The opening match will see Chennai Super Kings (CSK) facing off against the Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB). RCB, fresh from winning the Women’s Premier League (WPL) 2024, is eager to add another trophy to their cabinet.

Big names like MS Dhoni, Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, Ravindra Jadeja, and Glenn Maxwell will grace the field, setting the stage for an action-packed season.

This IPL season is crucial for players to sharpen their skills ahead of the T20 World Cup in the USA and West Indies.

All 74 matches of TATA IPL 2024 will be available for live viewing on the Cricbuzz app in the USA. Fans can witness CSK’s quest for a sixth championship title, while the Mumbai Indians, led by Hardik Pandya, aim for another victory.

The season also promises intriguing storylines, such as Rishabh Pant’s comeback, the promising performances of Yashasvi Jaiswal and Shubman Gill, and the presence of stalwarts like Rohit Sharma, Jasprit Bumrah, and Suryakumar Yadav.

“As the anticipation builds for the IPL 2024 opener, there’s surprising news from MS Dhoni. He has decided to step down as the captain of the Chennai Super Kings. Instead, young talent Ruturaj Gaikwad will lead the team in the upcoming season.”

Reports suggest that Dhoni himself proposed Ruturaj Gaikwad’s captaincy, aiming for a smooth transition. With speculations about Dhoni’s retirement at the end of the season, this move indicates a potential farewell from the league next year.

Chennai Super Kings are hopeful that this change in leadership will bring positive results. While a similar transition failed in 2022 when Dhoni briefly passed the baton to Ravindra Jadeja, the team’s CEO, Kasi Viswanathan, believes this time will be different and more successful.

Whatever MS Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team – CSK CEO Kasi Viswanathan

The guy in charge of Chennai Super Kings, Kasi Viswanathan, spoke up about MS Dhoni’s choice to pass on the captaincy to Ruturaj Gaikwad. He said whatever Dhoni does is for the team’s benefit. He went on to say:

“Whatever Dhoni does, it is in the best interest of the team. I got to know of the decision just before the captains’ meeting. You have to respect his decision, it is his call.”

“Dhoni has really made Chennai Super Kings a top team. He won five titles as captain and except for two seasons, he always got the team into the playoffs. He’s played 250 IPL matches and scored over 5000 runs with a strike rate of 135.92.”
