Among the changes made to MCC’s laws, the three big takeaways are as follows – a new batter will remain on strike irrespective of the players crossing the previous delivery, run out of the non-striker’s for backing too much and a permanent ban of saliva on the cricket ball. All three decision will come into effect after October. Reacting to these three changes, Tendulkar said he was in support of a ‘couple of them’. 

“New rules have been introduced in cricket by MCC committee and I am quite supportive of couple of them. The first one being Mankading dismissal. I was always uncomfortable with that particular dismissal being called ‘Mankaded’,” Tendulkar said in a video message. “I am really happy that it’s been changed to run out. It always should have been run out according to me. So, this is one good news for all of us. I was not comfortable with it at all, but that won’t be the case anymore.”

The other decision which Tendulkar was in favour of was the change of batters at strike following a dismissal. Over the years, batting teams have enjoyed the advantage of crossing ends during a dismissal to make sure the new player walking in stays at the non-striker’s end and the set batter faces the next ball. Tendulkar explained why he feels the rule change is fair.

“And the second one where the batter is dismissed, being caught, the new batter has to come and face the ball. The new batter takes the strike. It’s absolutely fair because if a bowler has been successful in picking a wicket it’s only fair that a bowler gets a chance to bowl to a new batter. This new rule is a good one and well done on that,” he said.

Talking about the game, India beat Pakistan for the 11th time in women’s ODIs, with a 107-run win.

After opting to bat first at the Bay Oval, India got off to a poor start despite an in-form Smriti Mandhana scoring a half-century. India then revived on the back of a record 122-run stand between Pooja Vastrakar and Sneh Rana as the team posted a total of 244 for seven.

Chasing the target, Pakistan did not get off to a decent start and after the 10-over mark, wickets kept falling at regular intervals. Left-arm spinner Rajeshwari Gayakwad was the pick of the bowlers with his four-wicket haul.
