Shaheen Shah Afridi has been ruled out of the Asia Cup 2022, as well as the seven-match T20I series at home against England in September, as a result of a knee injury. He has been advised to take a “4-6 weeks of rest” by the PCB’s medical advisory committee.

A recent tweet from Shaheen Shah Afridi.

During the first Test against Sri Lanka in Galle last month, Shaheen played no part in the ongoing tour of the Netherlands despite being in the squad.

“Shaheen’s our best bowler, so of course, we’ll miss him,” Pakistan’s vice-captain Shadab Khan said. “It’s unfortunate that he won’t be available for the Asia Cup. But we’re hopeful he will be available for future series and the World Cup. We’ll have to play ruthless cricket. Our team culture is such that we never relax against any team.”

The PCB said it expected Afridi to be fit for the October T20I tri-series in New Zealand, also involving Bangladesh, ahead of the T20 World Cup.

By the date now, only India and Pakistan have announced their team for Asia Cup 2022. Team India also misses their fast bowler Bumrah due to a back injury.
