Shane Warne dies aged 52: India captain Rohit Sharma, former Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara were among the many who expressed shock at Sharne Warne’s demise. The Australia cricketer passed away at a Thailand villa aged 52 on Friday.

Messages of condolences are pouring in as the cricket fraternity is reeling in shock over the demise of legendary Australia spinner Shane Warne. The Australian cricketer passed away at a Thailand villa due to a suspected heart attack on Friday, March 4.

India captain Rohit Sharma said he was shocked and was unable to process the fact that Warne passed away. According to a statement from his family, Warne suffered a suspected heart attack and the doctors unsuccessfully tried to revive the cricketer.

“I am truly lost for words here, this is extremely sad. An absolute legend and champion of our game has left us. RIP Shane Warne.still can’t believe it,” Rohit Sharma wrote on social media.

Legendary Sri Lanka wicketkeeper Kumar Sangakkara also took to social media to express his shock at the untimely death of Warne.

Shane Warne’s former Australia teammate Adam Gilchrist put out a heartbreaking social media post, expressing his emotions on Friday.

Shane Warne revolutionalised the art of leg-spin, bringing back crowds to watch Test cricket. Despite being a spinner, Warne instilled fear in the minds of the opposition.

Warne is regarded as one of the finest leg-spin bowlers of all time after a career in which he took 708 test wickets in a Test career which span from 1992 to 2007.

He later played in the Indian Premier League and other Twenty20 competitions before retiring from all international cricket in 2013 but continued to be involved in the game as a broadcaster.

Former India opener Virender Sehwag, who faced Shane Warne numerous times in his career, was one of the first to react to the Australia legend’s untimely death on Friday.

Sehwag said that he could not believe that the man who made spin cool is no more. Further paying his heartfelt condolences to Warne’s family, friends and fans all around the world, Sehwag said that life is fragile but this news is very difficult to fathom.

“Cannot believe it. One of the greatest spinners, the man who made spin cool, superstar Shane Warne is no more. Life is very fragile, but this is very difficult to fathom. My heartfelt condolences to his family, friends and fans all around the world,” Sehwag tweeted.

Warne’s management released a brief statement to the Australian media, saying that he passed away in Koh Samui, Thailand.

“Shane was found unresponsive in his villa and despite the best efforts of medical staff, he could not be revived,” the statement reported by various media outlets here said.

“The family requests privacy at this time and will provide further details in due course.” An iconic name in international cricket, Warne, since making his debut in 1992, played 145 Tests for Australia, picking up 708 wickets with his leg-spin. In his 194 ODI appearances, Warne snared 293 scalps.

He was the second-highest wicket-taker in Test history and only Sri Lanka off-spinner Muttiah Muralitharan has more wickets than him with 800. In 2007, Cricket Australia and Sri Lanka Cricket named the Test series between the two sides the WarneMuralitharan Trophy in the duo’s honour.

Warne, who made his Test debut against India at the iconic Sydney Cricket Ground, was named as one of Wisden’s Five Cricketers of the Century for his unparalleled achievements in a 15-year career between 1992 and 2007. In 2013, he was inducted into the ICC Hall of Fame.
