South Africa ended India’s incredible 12-match winning streak at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026. The Proteas handed the defending champions a brutal 76-run defeat. This thrilling Super Eight match took place at the massive Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on Sunday.
Captain Aiden Markram led his team to a stunning victory. The Proteas posted a challenging 187/7 in 20 overs. Subsequently, the South African bowlers delivered a complete masterclass. They dismissed India for just 111 runs in 18.5 overs.
Bumrah Makes History

India actually dominated the first half-hour of the contest. Fast bowler Jasprit Bumrah produced a stellar opening spell. He quickly dismissed Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton. Ultimately, he finished the match with spectacular figures of 3/15.
This incredible performance made him India’s highest wicket-taker in T20 World Cup history. He officially bypassed Ravichandran Ashwin to reach 33 career scalps in the tournament.
The Miller and Brevis Rescue Mission
Despite the early collapse to 20/3, South Africa fought back fiercely. David Miller and Dewald Brevis built a crucial 97-run partnership. They aggressively attacked the Indian spinners. Brevis smashed 45 runs off just 29 balls.
Meanwhile, Miller reached his half-century with a massive six. He scored an explosive 63 off 35 balls to earn the Player of the Match award. Tristan Stubbs then provided a late surge. He hammered an unbeaten 44 off 24 balls to push the total past 180.
A Complete Bowling Masterclass

In response, the Indian batting lineup completely collapsed. Captain Markram opened the bowling and dismissed Ishan Kishan immediately. Abhishek Sharma finally scored his first runs of the tournament. However, Corbin Bosch took a brilliant running catch to remove him for 15.
Shivam Dube offered the only real resistance for India. He top-scored with a respectable 42 runs.
The South African pace attack executed their plans perfectly. Marco Jansen tore through the top order. He finished with phenomenal figures of 4/22. Furthermore, Keshav Maharaj claimed three crucial wickets. He dismissed Hardik Pandya, Rinku Singh, and Arshdeep Singh to shut the door on India.
