Sussex vs Surrey: On the second day of their pre-season match against Surrey, Tom Clark shone with a splendid century at The 1st Central County Ground. Sussex reached 165-3 in 49 overs before rain halted play, resulting in a draw.

Tom Clark achieved his century off 159 balls, retiring on 102 after hitting a boundary off Jamie Overton’s bouncer. He was one of Sussex’s top batters last season and aims to continue his good form into the 2024 Championship.

Clark and Tom Alsop built a solid partnership of 124 runs for the second wicket before Alsop was caught at short-leg for 32. Sussex resumed the day at 60-1, with Clark on 40 and Alsop on 12.

Sussex approached day two cautiously against Surrey’s strong attack. Clark notched his 50 with a top-edged pull for four off Conor McKerr, while Alsop survived a close LBW appeal.

Clark showed dominance against spin, hitting Cam Steel for consecutive boundaries, including a lofted drive and a powerful reverse sweep. The pair reached the 100-run mark in the 34th over, with Clark contributing significantly.

Alsop’s innings ended when he was caught at short-leg off Steel. After reaching his century, Clark retired, and James Coles joined Oli Carter at the crease.

Before rain intervened, Sussex reached 165-3 at lunch. Their final pre-season match against Hampshire begins on Friday at The 1st Central County Ground.
