The Barbados Royals are aiming for their sixth win to keep their chances of finishing in the top two alive.

West Indies wicketkeeper-batter Nicholas Pooran broke the world record for the most T20 runs in a single year, surpassing Pakistan’s Mohammad Rizwan. He reached this milestone during the Trinbago Knight Riders vs. Barbados Royals match in the 2024 Caribbean Premier League (CPL) on September 28, 2024. Pooran scored a quick 27 off 15 balls, bringing his total T20 runs for the year to 2,059, beating Rizwan’s 2021 record of 2,036 runs.

Pooran, who has been in great form throughout 2024, achieved this while playing for teams like Durban Super Giants, Lucknow Super Giants, MI Emirates, MI New York, Northern Super Chargers, Rangpur Riders, and the West Indies. His total includes runs from T20 Internationals, franchise leagues, and domestic T20 matches.

Rizwan had scored his 2,036 runs from 45 innings in 2021, with an impressive average of 56.66, including one century and 18 fifties. Pooran took 65 innings to pass the record, with an average of over 42, and has hit 14 fifties, including several scores in the 90s.

Sunil Narine becomes first recipient of slow-overs red card, asked to leave the field by umpire https://totalcric.com/sunil-narine-becomes-first-recipient-of-slow-over/ Mon, 28 Aug 2023 14:28:46 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=3693 Sunil Narine had completed his quota of four overs, with figures of 24-3, before he was withdrawn for the final over of the Patriots’ innings, which yielded 18 runs.

Sunil Narine, the Trinbago Knight Riders spinner, became the first cricketer to receive a red card on Sunday, during a Caribbean Premier League (CPL) match.

This was after the organizers of the CPL, in a bid to combat slow over-rates, introduced the system of red cards to ensure teams were bowling their quota of overs in the mandated 85 minutes and did not lag behind schedule at the start of the final over of an innings.

The sanction means a team loses a player selected by the captain and must have six fielders inside the circle.

Thereafter, the Knight Riders were left with 10 men for the final of their match against the St. Kitts and Nevis Patriots. However, they still won the match by six wickets.

Incidentally, Sunil Narine had completed his quota of four overs by then before he was withdrawn for the last over.

TKR Skipper Kieron Pollard expressed his unhappiness with the penalty and said, “To be honest, it will take away the hard work everyone has done.” “We are like the pawns, and we are going to do what we are told.

“We are going to play as fast as we can. If you are penalized for 30-45 seconds in a tournament like this, it is absolutely ridiculous.”

An extensive list of penalties has been drawn up in the tournament-

If behind the required over rate at the start of the 18th over, one additional player must enter the fielding circle (for a total of 5)

If still behind the rate at the start of the 19th over, two additional fielders must enter the fielding circle (for a total of 6).

If still behind the rate at the start of the 20th over, teams will lose a player from the field (selected by the captain) and have six inside the fielding circle.
