Former cricketers Varun Aaron and Aaron Finch praised Kishan’s maturity in adapting to conditions after his gritty 44 off 34 balls.

Kishan’s Comeback Innings:

Ishan Kishan, who had scored just 33 runs across his last seven innings, bounced back under pressure on Friday night. Chasing a modest 155, Kishan walked in after Abhishek Sharma’s early dismissal and took a cautious route, being 21 off 20 balls at one stage before accelerating slightly to finish at 44.

“He is one of those players who, if he gives himself time at the start, can take it really deep,” Varun Aaron pointed out. “Today, he assessed the wicket first before playing his shots.”

Finch too lauded Kishan’s maturity:
“His ability to read the situation and not be overly aggressive early on stood out. He made sure he assessed conditions, which is never easy when you’re tempted to attack during the powerplay.”

Though Kishan couldn’t finish the match — falling to a mistimed shot — his innings had already set the foundation for SRH’s third win in nine matches.

A Scrappy Yet Valuable Win for SRH:

While the chase stretched to 18.4 overs and SRH lost five wickets, both experts stressed the importance of winning ugly.

“A win is a win,” Aaron said. “SRH, who are usually known for dominant wins, needed a scratchy, hard-fought victory to boost their confidence. This will help them believe they can win even when their top-order doesn’t fire.”

With important contributions from Kishan and a steady finishing touch from Nitish Kumar Reddy, SRH will now look to carry this momentum into the business end of the tournament.

Noor Ahmad and Harshal Patel Climb IPL 2025 Purple Cap Rankings After CSK vs SRH Clash https://totalcric.com/noor-ahmad-and-harshal-patel-climb-ipl-2025-purple-cap-rankings-after-csk-vs-srh-clash/ Sat, 26 Apr 2025 06:12:21 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=7898 The IPL 2025 Purple Cap race has seen fresh movement following the high-stakes match between Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chepauk. While SRH sealed a crucial win, standout performances by bowlers Noor Ahmad and Harshal Patel have also helped them surge up the leaderboard.

Purple Cap Update:

  • Prasidh Krishna (Gujarat Titans) continues to lead the table with 16 wickets in 8 games.
  • Josh Hazlewood (RCB), who recently picked up 4/33 vs RR, also sits on 16 wickets but ranks second due to a higher economy rate.
  • Noor Ahmad (CSK), who took 2/42 against SRH, now has 14 wickets and re-enters the top three.
  • Harshal Patel (SRH), after his stunning 4/20 spell, including dismissals of Dewald Brevis and MS Dhoni, moves to 13 wickets and fourth spot.

A tightly packed cluster follows, with seven bowlers tied on 12 wickets each — including R Sai Kishore (GT), Kuldeep Yadav (DC), Hardik Pandya (MI), Krunal Pandya (RCB), Mohammed Siraj (GT), Khaleel Ahmed (CSK), and Shardul Thakur (LSG).

Orange Cap Update:

  • B Sai Sudharsan (GT) remains the Orange Cap holder with 417 runs at an average of 52.12.
  • Virat Kohli (RCB) is hot on his heels with 392 runs, thanks to a classy 70 off 42 balls vs RR.
  • Nicholas Pooran (LSG) slips to third with 377 runs, after three consecutive low scores.
  • Suryakumar Yadav (MI) sits fourth with 373 runs, impressing with remarkable consistency.
  • Jos Buttler (GT) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (RR) follow closely with 356 runs each. Jaiswal, after a poor start to the season, is back in form with scores of 75, 51, 74, and 49 in his last four innings.

As the IPL 2025 league stage heats up, the race for the Orange and Purple Caps is more competitive than ever — and with several teams still in the playoff hunt, more changes are expected in the coming days.

Dhoni Reflects on CSK’s Struggles After Historic Home Defeat to SRH https://totalcric.com/dhoni-reflects-on-csks-struggles-after-historic-home-defeat-to-srh/ Sat, 26 Apr 2025 06:08:44 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=7895 Chennai Super Kings (CSK) captain MS Dhoni admitted that his team fell short with the bat after they were bowled out for just 154 in a five-wicket loss to Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) at Chepauk — marking CSK’s first-ever home defeat to SRH and their seventh loss in nine games of the IPL 2025 season.

Speaking after the match, Dhoni said, We were short by 15-20 runs. The pitch wasn’t turning much in the first innings, so 155 wasn’t a justifiable score. It got slightly two-paced later, but we should have batted better and rotated strike more efficiently.”

After being 114 for 4 in the 13th over, CSK’s batting crumbled, losing six wickets for just 40 runs — a collapse that once again highlighted their vulnerability in the middle overs.

Despite the defeat, one bright spot was 21-year-old Dewald Brevis, who impressed in his first outing this season. Replacing the injured Gurjapneet Singh, Brevis smashed 42 off 25 balls, including four sixes, three of which came in a single over against spinner Kamindu Mendis.

Praising the youngster, Dhoni said, “Brevis batted really well. We need that kind of aggression in the middle order. Where we’ve struggled is against spin — we’ve neither rotated strike effectively nor consistently hit the big shots. That’s something we need to work on.”

CSK now sit at the bottom of the table with just four points from nine games. They’ve lost four out of five matches at Chepauk this season and face Punjab Kings next on April 30 — a team they already lost to earlier in the season.

With their playoff hopes fading, CSK will need to regroup quickly and fix their middle-order issues if they hope to turn their campaign around.

Harshit Rana’s Meteoric Rise: A Debut to Remember in International Cricket https://totalcric.com/harshit-ranas-meteoric-rise-a-debut-to-remember-in-international-cricket/ Sat, 08 Feb 2025 08:02:06 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=6987 In just three whirlwind months, Harshit Rana has etched his name into the annals of cricket history with a debut that dreams are made of. The 23-year-old fast bowler has not only marked his presence across all formats for India but has also achieved a rare milestone—becoming the first Indian bowler to claim a three-wicket haul in each of his debut matches. His journey from obscurity to international stardom has been nothing short of extraordinary.

A Historic Debut Across Formats

Rana’s entry into international cricket has been as dramatic as it is historic. Making his debut in Test cricket, he dismantled the opposition’s top order with a fiery spell, picking up three crucial wickets. He carried this momentum into the ODI and T20I formats, where he replicated his performance, consistently delivering match-winning contributions. His ability to adapt to different formats so seamlessly has left fans and experts alike in awe.

This unprecedented feat places him in an elite club of cricketers who have made an immediate impact on the global stage. For a young player stepping into the high-pressure world of international cricket, Rana’s composure and skill have set him apart.

Controversy and Composure: Handling the Spotlight

Despite his on-field heroics, Rana recently found himself at the center of a controversy surrounding a concussion substitute during the 1st ODI. When questioned about the incident after India’s victory, the young bowler displayed maturity beyond his years.

“I’ve moved on from it,” Rana said matter-of-factly, choosing to focus on his game rather than dwell on off-field distractions. His straightforward response reflects his determination to let his cricket do the talking—a trait that bodes well for his future in the sport.

The Road Ahead

With such a blistering start to his international career, expectations are sky-high for Harshit Rana. However, the young pacer seems unfazed by the pressure. His ability to swing the ball at pace, combined with his knack for breaking partnerships, makes him a valuable asset for Team India.

As India looks to build a formidable squad for upcoming tournaments, Rana’s inclusion adds depth and firepower to their bowling attack. Whether it’s the longer format or the shorter, high-octane games, Rana’s versatility ensures he remains a key player in the team’s plans.

A Star in the Making

Harshit Rana’s journey from a promising domestic talent to an international sensation is a testament to his hard work, perseverance, and natural ability. His record-breaking debut has not only brought him personal glory but also reignited hope for Indian cricket fans eager to see the next generation of stars take center stage.

For now, Rana’s focus remains on continuing his stellar form and contributing to India’s success. If his first few months are anything to go by, the cricketing world can expect plenty more fireworks from this rising star.

Virat Kohli Receives Hero’s Welcome in Bhubaneswar as Fans Rally Around Star Batter https://totalcric.com/virat-kohli-receives-heros-welcome-in-bhubaneswar-as-fans-rally-around-star-batter/ Sat, 08 Feb 2025 07:49:31 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=6982 Bhubaneswar rolled out the red carpet for Team India as they arrived ahead of the second ODI against England, with Virat Kohli receiving a thunderous reception from fans. The former Indian captain, who missed the first ODI due to a knee injury, continues to draw massive admiration and support wherever he goes.

In a video shared by ANI on their official X (formerly Twitter) handle, the Indian team was seen arriving at their hotel in Bhubaneswar. The red carpet was laid out for the Men in Blue, with notable figures like Head Coach Gautam Gambhir, Assistant Coach Abhishek Nayar, and star players such as Hardik Pandya and Ravindra Jadeja making their way into the hotel. However, it was Virat Kohli who stole the spotlight, eliciting the loudest cheers from the enthusiastic crowd gathered outside.

Kohli’s Injury Concerns Persist Amid Warm Reception

Despite his absence from the first ODI, where India faced a narrow defeat, Kohli remains a fan favorite and a symbol of inspiration for cricket enthusiasts. Ahead of the match, concerns arose regarding his fitness after skipper Rohit Sharma revealed during the toss that Kohli had experienced a knee issue the previous night. Visuals from the game showed the batting maestro with his right knee strapped, raising questions about his availability for the upcoming clash.

While Kohli’s participation in the second ODI remains uncertain, his presence in Bhubaneswar has undoubtedly lifted spirits. Fans are hopeful that the 36-year-old will recover in time to take the field at the Barabati Stadium in Cuttack, a venue known for its electric atmosphere.

Fan Frenzy on Full Display

The video captures the palpable excitement among fans as they chanted Kohli’s name and cheered wildly upon his arrival. Such scenes have become commonplace for the batting legend, whose influence transcends generations. Earlier this year, similar chaos erupted at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi when three spectators breached security just to touch Kohli’s feet—a testament to the reverence he commands.

What Lies Ahead for Kohli and Team India?

With the series tied at 0-1, India will be eager to bounce back and level the contest against a formidable English side. Kohli’s potential return could provide a much-needed boost to the lineup, especially given his knack for delivering under pressure. Over the years, the right-handed batter has been instrumental in several high-stakes encounters, including his iconic partnership with Hardik Pandya against Pakistan in the 2022 T20 World Cup—a moment Pandya recently described as “pure emotion.”

However, all eyes remain on Kohli’s fitness as the team weighs whether he should head to the National Cricket Academy (NCA) for a thorough check-up or stay with the squad for the remainder of the series.

A City Ready to Host a Blockbuster Encounter

As Bhubaneswar gears up to host one of cricket’s biggest stars, the city has ensured a warm welcome for the entire Indian contingent. From rolling out the red carpet to organizing grand arrangements, local authorities are leaving no stone unturned to make the team feel at home.

For now, fans can only hope that Kohli overcomes his injury woes and takes center stage once again. Whether or not he plays, his mere presence continues to ignite passion and excitement among millions of cricket lovers across the globe.

West Indies Implements Data-Driven Scouting to Revitalize Cricket Talent https://totalcric.com/west-indies-implements-data-driven-scouting-to-revitalize-cricket-talent/ Tue, 04 Feb 2025 06:39:35 +0000 https://totalcric.com/?p=6937 Cricket West Indies (CWI) has launched a groundbreaking data-driven scouting system aimed at identifying and nurturing local cricket talent. This marks a pivotal shift from traditional scouting methods, introducing a more analytical and structured approach to talent identification.

The initiative features a new network of Senior Talent Managers, Territorial Talent Identifiers (TTIDs), and regional scouts who will collaborate to evaluate players comprehensively. The West Indies Championship serves as the first major platform for this system, where performances will be closely monitored beyond just scorecards and statistics. Skill sets, tactical acumen, and game awareness are now key focus areas.

Leading the effort are two Senior Talent Managers: Jamal Smith (Male) and Ann Browne-John (Female). They will oversee player data and work with analysts to assist in selection decisions. Supporting them are six TTIDs assigned to different regions: Henderson Broomes (Barbados), Ramnaresh Sarwan (Guyana), Delroy Morgan (Jamaica), Samuel Spencer (Leeward Islands), Gibran Mohammed (Trinidad & Tobago), and Craig Emmanuel (Windward Islands). Additionally, four regional scouts—Fernix Thomas (Dominica), Stacy-Ann Adams (St. Vincent), Anthony Gray (Trinidad & Tobago), and Shane Jeffers (St. Kitts)—will play a vital role in evaluating talent during the championship.

Miles Bascombe, CWI Director of Cricket, emphasized the importance of this shift. “We are moving beyond relying solely on scorecards,” he said. “This system ensures performances are analyzed with context, focusing on skill sets, tactical awareness, and game intelligence. By collecting real-time data and conducting consistent analysis, we are making informed decisions about player development.”

For more details on the West Indies Championship, visit CWI’s Official Website.

A Strategic Approach to Talent Identification

The TTIDs have been tasked with attending matches and training sessions to assess players’ technical skills, physical attributes, and mental resilience. Their responsibilities also include compiling detailed scouting reports, maintaining performance records, and collaborating with coaches, selectors, and high-performance staff to refine development pathways.

Bascombe highlighted that this approach is not just about numbers but also qualitative assessments. “Players will now be evaluated by multiple talent operatives, ensuring no talent goes unnoticed,” he added.

This initiative comes at a critical time for West Indies cricket, as both the men’s and women’s teams have struggled with consistency in recent years. While there have been highlights like Shamar Joseph’s Test win over Australia in Brisbane and the victory against Pakistan in Multan, overall results have been lackluster. The men’s team finished near the bottom in the latest World Test Championship cycle and failed to qualify for the upcoming ODI Champions Trophy. Meanwhile, the women’s team, once T20 world champions, now ranks outside the top five in both ICC ODI and T20I standings.

A Step Toward Restoring Glory

With this new framework, CWI aims to rebuild its talent pipeline and restore West Indies cricket to its former glory. Fans can follow live updates and analysis of the West Indies Championship on platforms like ESPNcricinfo.

This data-driven approach reflects CWI’s commitment to modernizing its systems and ensuring that the next generation of cricketers is equipped to compete at the highest level.
